Visitors to The Land have the opportunity to give contribute partnership with Unconditional Freedom, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to restoring dignity to outcast populations. These activities include letter writing with prison residents taking an 8-week journey into liberation tools, yoga and meditation; gourmet meals for those in need; and sustainable agriculture to restore optimal soil health. Below are a sampling of the activities that visitors to The Land can participate in.
Earth Program
The Earth Program is about implementing practices for regenerating damaged ecosystems both on The Land as well as within the surrounding Navarro River Watershed. The Earth Program has curated a network of renowned experts such as ecologist John D. Liu and The Water Institute’s Brock Dolman amongst others. Earth Program activities include ecological restoration, seasonal fire-prevention, water conservation and regenerative farming, as well as hosting conferences and events.
Free Food
At Free Food, we provide love and nourishment through gourmet, farm-to-table meals served in a sit down restaurant setting. It is a Monastery ritual each Friday to prepare and serve a delicious meal using produce from the garden and donated meat, cheese and other ingredients to local surrounding shelters. All retreat participants are welcome and encouraged to attend as part of their digestion and integration on the Land.
The Prison Monastery
The Prison Monastery aims to provide prison residents and guards with essential tools and support to transform the experience of incarceration into one of liberation and human flourishing. At its core, the Prison Monastery offers the Art of Soulmaking Correspondence Course, an 8-week journey facilitated by a trained letter-writer. Eros Monastery staff and retreat participants have the opportunity to become certified letter-writer correspondents and support prison residents in their process.
BlackBox
Monastery guests can plug into conversation and events hosted by BlackBox, a cultural creative collective dedicated to bringing vision to all the things we don’t talk about in this culture and talking about them.
The group facilitates conversations and experiences to engage with topics like the taboos of race and blackness, spirituality and religion, sex, beauty, power, the dark parts of being human, all facets of being black and living in and shaping the American culture.
